Service in ACA

Service in ACA is based on “Action coming from love.”

Short Testimonials on What ACA Service has Done for Me

Service has given me hope, community and unanimous group conscience flow experiences after honest, courageous, “say what i think” and listen to others conflicts in the committees on Literature, Spiritual inclusion and Representation, Equity and Accessibility. When there have been things I cannot accept, I have done what I can together with others, and now ACA has a transinclusive first page and spiritually inclusive new literature. It has been so healing!

Commitment to service is a commitment to myself. Part of that is the lesson in truly learning “Yes” and “No.” In ACA I’ve never been expected to do more than I was able. Having that freedom, I was able to do more than I thought I ever could. As I progressed in my recovery, I started to seek answers beyond the book. I found those who had been on the path who were wiser were found doing service. In my life the best guides welcomed me to walk beside them.

At the time I didn’t know it, but “doing the work” in ACA and stepping into service was the yellow-brick-road for me to create a life of happiness, love, joy and peace. To overcome the trauma, insanity, failed relationships and fear is quite a painful, yet glorious achievement. I am now living the life I have always dreamed of and it is all because of ACA.

“The purpose of service in ACA is to support one another in becoming responsible for our own well-being.”  Service in ACA is based on “Action coming from love.”

“Our feelings of self-worth and adequacy start to grow as we successfully re-parent ourselves, and we begin to trust our ability to love and serve others. We give service just by being present to support and encourage other members of the program as they make the transition from frightened adult children to whole human beings who are capable of acting with the spontaneity of a child and the wisdom of a mature adult. This central concept underlies and supports all forms of service. …by uniting in service, we create a program for living which provides a sane alternative to the insanity of family alcoholism.” (Chapter 10, BRB)

Tradition Two – For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority – a loving God as expressed in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants, they do not govern.

Tradition Nine – ACA, as such ought never be organized, but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible for those they serve.
